The Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI) had the opportunity to attend the 3rd annual Zambezi Bream and Cultural Expo from 8th to 13th August 2016. The Expo took place at Katima Mulilo Sport Complex. The Expo was held under the theme “Poverty Reduction through SME Support.”
A number of exhibitors, particularly SMEs from the Zambezi region and beyond all used the opportunity to showcase and market their products. Few government Ministries, Agencies and Private Institutions also attended the event in order to promote their services.
The keynote speaker of the event’s official opening was the Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Hon. Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, during her speech she stated that the festival should be an opportunity for Zambezi residents to celebrate the abundance and quality of the Zambezi bream, as well as the diverse culture it represents.
The FLI team, distributed booklets while having brief conversations with visitors on what the Institution does and what the various booklets are about, the team also gave promotional materials away to visitors who could state the importance of savings, budgeting or explain their financial goals.
In addition to that the team also raised awareness about the ongoing financial management simulation based training for SMEs Entrepreneurs and collected few application forms that had been completed for the training. The event also included various competitions for visitors, night performances by mainly local Artists and few well established national Artists such Sally “Boss Madam” and also had a Miss Zambezi Bream Festival and Cultural Expo Beauty Pageant.
