The FLI celebrated its 5th Birthday on Friday 31 March 2017 through a Women’s conference under the theme ‘’Be your own superhero”. The conference brought together women from all works of life to celebrate and engage on topics relating to finances. A responsible attitude towards your finances in today’s world is a key factor to becoming an independent and successful woman.
The FLI welcomed approximately 150 women at this event which was held at the Rail House in Windhoek. An impressive line-up of more than 10 thriving and inspiring women was brought together to engage women of various financial topics. This was done through a series speeches, panel discussions, presentations and financial wellness sessions in order to empower women to become financially independent and confident.
The FLI feels very honoured that the First Lady of the Republic of Namibia, Madame Geingos, delivered a talk titled ‘’Women Engage, Women Empower, Women Educate’’. Women present at the event had an opportunity to engage with the First Lady through various questions.
Also in attendance was the Minister of Gender and Child Welfare, Hon. Doreen Sioka, who spoke about Gender-Based Violence; she discouraged perpetrators to discontinue such practices against their partners.
The Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI) is a national platform which is mandated to improve the financial skills of private individuals and micro, small and medium enterprises. The initiative currently consists of more than 30 official platform partners from the private, public and civil sectors in Namibia who jointly strive to address the target groups’ needs with regard to financial competence and consumer protection.
The FLI was founded 5 years ago by the Ministry of Finance together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government.
